Starting July 1, 2025, several new laws, regulations, and rate adjustments will take effect in the Netherlands. Many people will immediately notice the impact on their wallets. Here's an overview of the most important changes:

💶 Income and Benefits

  • Minimum wage increases by approximately 2.5%. For people aged 21 and over, the hourly wage will be €14.40, which equals about €60 more per month for a full-time job.

  • Social benefits (like AOW pension, unemployment, and social assistance) will rise accordingly. For example, single AOW recipients will receive about €31 more per month.

  • However, the holiday allowance for AOW pensioners will slightly decrease: singles will receive €100.39 instead of €102.46 per month.

🏠 Rent Prices

  • Social housing rent can increase by a maximum of 5% (or €25 if base rent is low).

  • Higher-income tenants in social housing may see rent increases of €50 to €100.

  • Mid-range rent may go up by as much as 7.7%, and private sector rents by up to 4.1%.

✉️ Post, Internet, and TV

  • The price of a domestic postage stamp increases from €1.21 to €1.31.

  • International shipping and registered mail fees are also going up.

👨‍👩‍👧 Childcare and Support

  • Child support payments are now given priority over other debts, helping ensure children receive what they’re owed.

  • Parents of children receiving long-term care (Wlz) can now apply for double child benefit via the SVB — even retroactively.

📈 Taxes and Finances

  • The interest on overdue taxes will rise to 6.5%.

  • The protected earnings threshold (the part of your income that cannot be garnished) is being adjusted.

📅 Don't Forget!

  • Your statutory vacation days from 2024 will expire on July 1, 2025, unless your employer has reminded you of them in writing.
